Tennis Basics for Kids
Steven White
|
Steven White brings twenty-five years of tennis teaching experience to focus on the fundamentals of the game for the young, the beginning, and the improving player. The book allows young readers to learn the basic strokes of tennis from easy-to-follow text, written with a combination of simple and more complex sentences and carefully introducing new vocabulary. The Manga characters not only provide an interesting looking book but the figures illustrate the various strokes and positions the author is describing.
This book is a must for the many children who want to learn the fundamentals of the game and those who are constantly striving to improve their game.
This book could easily be used as a training manual for someone trying to teach tennis those people who are good tennis players who would like to teach tennis to their kids, but can't put what they know into words. Also, it would be a great book for adult beginners who are participating in a beginner level instruction course. It could be used as a "text book". --Michael Gardner, Tennis Pro, Carlisle, Massachusets
Bring Your Racquet is a resource that any parent or beginning/intermediate player can refer to when they are not on the court with their Pro. Some Pros instruction may differ slightly from the information in the book. None of us teach exactly the same, but 99% of the book is the information that Pros impart to their beginning and intermediate students.
--Dick Hatfield, Director of Tennis at Newman Tennis Center, United States Professional Tennis Association

I bought this book for my 10-year-old daughter who had been taking lessons for several months. Despite my efforts, she's never been much of a recreational reader but finished this in one night. She loved the Manga style illustrations and said they truly helped her visualize the actions described in the text. When she took it to her instructor, he was quite impressed as well and said that it was great reinforcement. Personally, as a teacher and mother, I was thrilled that she was so excited about reading. As an aside, once she finally put it down, I started reading it and have improved my game as well. I highly recommend this book for all aspiring tennis stars!
