Mary Joyce Boehm Athey
|
Joyce Athey invites you into her journey of faith through her art and poetry. Her creativity is deeply rooted in an Ohio farm, the beautiful mountains of Ethiopia, and the American parsonage. In each new place, Joyce developed her skills of perception to express more deeply her faith in Christ and her love for people in every culture and circumstance.
This book is a reflection of that God-blessed journey as Joyce sweeps color and motion across the canvas in subtle combinations and draws you into her poetic heart. Not unlike an encounter with God and God’s word, this blending of art and poetry—of color, form, and light provides inspiration and encouragement in your own journey.
JOYCE ATHEY has been an elementary teacher, director of Christian education, missionary, minister’s wife, and mother. Her immersion in a variety of cultures, traditions, and patterns of thought gave birth to an active concern for the life and suffering of others. Her internalized observation, thought, and emotion—gathered over a span of three-score-plus years, formed by changes of surroundings of both people and place—have molded her, her work, her story, and the intimacy of her expressions. With a BS in education and a MA in gifted education, artistic expression has always been an important part of her teaching, guiding, and learning.
