The 1965 Twins
Jim Thielman
|
The Minnesota Twins were an endless surprise in 1965. The Twins’ powerful lineup drew huge crowds in cities such as New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. For only the third time since World War II a team other than the New York Yankees won the American League pennant. Despite injuries to Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, Tony Oliva, Camilo Pascual and Earl Battey, the players brought Minnesota its first World Series. The team launched friendships that survive today, and decades after the 1965 World Series fans lined up for autographs of their heroes. This is the story of the team, the players, the games of the 1965 Minnesota Twins.
Jim Thielman has worked at newspapers in Minnesota, Florida, and North Dakota. He covered the Minnesota Twins from 1977 until 1993 and has reported from events such as the National Football Conference Championship, the British and U.S. Opens, Rose Bowl, Major League Baseball All-Star Game, post-season playoffs and World Series.
