Domestic Vision
|
Twenty-Five Years of the Art of Joel Sheesley
Gregg Hertzlieb, Editor
|
In Joel Sheesley's art domesticity flows from the interiors of houses into yard, neighborhoods, parks, and roadways. In this collection the reader encounters a journey through the landscape that is always marked with human presence. These paintings invite reflection as to how we are fitted to this world, how we have fit the world to ourselves, and how we are fit for one another within the world we know. The five essays on the artist are unsentimental and informatively critical while engaging and passionate.
Joel Sheesly has BFA from Syracuse University and a MFA from the University of Denver. He is Professor of Art at Wheaton College. Sheesley's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the country and won numerous prizes at juried competitions. He received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in 200. Sheesley is the co-author of Sandino in the Streets, which is designed around the artist's photographs of contemporary street art in Nicaragua, and his essays have been published in "Image, Books and Culture" and "New Art Examiner."
