And Other Stories from the Village
Harold P. Kurtz
|
Harold Kurtz vividly remembers and warmly appreciates what it was like to live in a community where joy was collectively celebrated and sorrow collectively shared, secrets quickly wore out their welcome, and everyone knew enough about everyone else to mind their manners most of the time. These uplifting stories celebrate friendship, honesty, family and helping your neighbor. Whether you have ever lived in a village yourself or are being introduced to village life through the book, you will get a kick out of the characters and antics in these pages. This book will be of special interest to those interested in the culture of small town Wisconsin with tales of circus parades, town festivals, and the Wisconsin State Fair.
Harold Kurtz was born in Milwaukee, but spent most of his early life in Brandon, Wisconsin, a village of 708 people in western Fond du Lac County. Harold and his family lived in the parsonage of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Brandon, where his father was pastor. The family moved from Brandon during Harold's sophomore year in high school. He went on to graduate from high school in Platteville, Wisconsin. He earned his bachelors degree at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and a masters degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After a short career as a journalist with the Appleton, Wisconsin, Post-Crescent, he went into institutional advancement work, holding positions in Park Ridge, Illinois; Milwaukee, WI; and St. Paul-Minneapolis, MN. He is the author of five other published books on professional topics. (See also Hardly a Silent Night in this catalog.) He and his wife Grace live in New Brighton, Minnesota.
