The Augsburg Quartets

A Mission Driven Tradition

Merton P. Strommen & David M. Larson

This is the story of the quartets and singing groups that were established to encourage a strong relationship between Augsburg College and the college’s supporting congregations. The quartets helped spread the temperance message and encouraged the development of youth work. The history, with photos of most of the quartets, covers the years from the late 1800s to the 1960s. As the quartets traveled the country, their mission was to bear witness to Christ and the Gospel. Included is a CD of the 1953 quartet. This book is a treasure for those who seek inspiration from the activities of youth, those interested in development of small college traditions, and those interested in history.
