The Vision of the Pope

A Narrative

Edmund Schlink, translated by Eugene Skibbe

This novella is a story of faith, hope, and love. The story of a pope struggling to learn unity from Christ and to live it out in his own church. The astonishing change portrayed is made possible by faith that God’s grace will eventually unite a divided Christianity by love for the beauty of the spiritual diversity among Christians and by hope that churches will be ready to accept and enjoy both unity and diversity.

A compelling concept of church unity in story form by a leading ecumenical theologian. Die Vision des Papstes, was published in German in 1975 and again in 1997. This work, subsequently published in French and Spanish, is here in the first English translation by Eugene M. Skibbe, Professor Emeritus, Augsburg College.
